The Super Bowl is quickly approaching and whether you are hosting a gathering, going to a gathering or just staying home it is time to start planning one of the most important parts of the event…what you will be eating! Super Bowl parties are all about the food(I believe every party is about the food) and tailgating/game food is some of the best. If you are visiting this blog you are probably at least somewhat interested in healthy food and trying to keep those new year’s resolutions of healthy eating. Why not plan ahead so you can eat great food and stay on track this weekend.

I have attached five recipes in this blog that I think balance out the perfect Super Bowl layout. If you are going to a gathering and just need one or two then pick your favorites. This list provides a nice balance and a spread that will be sure to have your friends talking.

I say this in the recipe, however I will offer another disclaimer that the Bacon + everything dip is a far stretch to be described as “healthy”. It is gluten free and low fat and very addictive served with crackers. It provides that cream cheese/dip fix you need and expect when at a football party and it is really easy to throw together and perfect to make in advance, will easily keep until the next day in the refrigerator.

Italian Meatballs were in this week’s meal plan specifically before the superbowl. Everyone loves meatballs. Make the meatballs and sauce the day before or earlier in the week then put in a crockpot on warm and serve with some toothpicks. The recipe is a large batch that is perfect for gatherings. This rounds out your Super Bowl spread with some protein.

I am always a fan of a large vegetable tray at gatherings. If you are a constant food grazer like I am at parties. This is the perfect option to keep putting something light and healthy into your mouth. Hummus makes a great and healthy dip option and with this hummus recipe you can omit the avacado and use more lemon and garlic. Hummus can be made ahead but chop the vegetables right before serving for the best freshness.

Guacamole and Black Bean Salsa are great together served with tortilla chips. These will make beautiful, colorful presentations at your party and they are healthy too! Both are best made fresh right before the gathering. If you feel the need for one last snack, my go to is white popcorn with coconut oil and himalayan sea salt.. YUM!

Whatever your plans are for the Super Bowl, start planning your food choices now so you can make healthy decisions at the party!
