Cheeseburger Pasta
Disclaimer: should this be called healthy..probably not. If you are trying to make a shift to lose weight or reach some health goals is this on your weekly meal plan..no. I have have teenagers, and even though gluten free they still love the occasional cheesy pasta and with their activity level they can use the carbs. It is a whole lot healthier than from a box! Its yummy too..I could eat the entire pan! Check out options to make it even healthier if you desire.
Ingredients
- 1 package spiral pasta we use gluten free
- 8 oz cheddar cheese shredded
- 1 lb ground turkey lean
- 1 onion finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic
- 2 tbsp butter
- 2 tbsp flour we use gluten free
- 1/2 cup chicken broth
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1/2 tsp cayenne pepper
- 1/2 tsp nutmeg
- 1 tsp paprika
- salt and fresh cracked pepper to taste
Instructions
- Boil pasta according to package directions.
- Brown turkey and set aside.
- In sauce pan add butter onions and garlic, cook through. Add flour and spices, stirring constantly for 2 minutes. Keep stirring over low heat and add chicken broth and milk stir until thickened and add the cheese. Combine with pasta and turkey.
Notes
To make this healthier or have fewer calories use skim milk or skip the milk and use all broth. Reduce the cheese or use low fat.
