I have been wanting to write about how much we LOVE Essential Oils and how much they have been a part of our family’s healthy life, but as you may have noticed it has been easier for me to just share a quick recipe instead of take time to write and share. Just like meal prep and making healthy choices about food have been important, incorporating Essential Oils has had a huge impact on our health.

As I started to write this over and over, it was really important to me that I shared authentically. In the times that we are in and with social media, I think it can be so overwhelming to sort out what is what.  It seems like everything you see is telling you the latest and greatest of this and that and how are you really suppose to sort out a plan of what to do for your family anyway! I have been there. More on us later…..Adding oils was a truly holistic approach to our health. (Don’t get skeptical…hang in there..I’m serious and very passionate..but I was skeptical too). The health benefits were not only physical, but mental, emotional, and spiritual….holistic health.

The first experience I remember with oils was when I was in college at Disney’s Epcot Center. I suddenly had the worst headache ever and was in China in the worlds. I asked at the shop if they had advil or tylenol and instead they rubbed some peppermint on my temples and my headache was gone almost instantly. That was twenty years ago and I thought, why are they keeping that a secret? It is still one of my favorite go-to oils to calm a headache or increase concentration.  Disclaimer: I am obviously not a medical professional or claiming to be. I am not claiming to be an expert nutritionist with my recipes either, just sharing our personal experiences and solutions I have found that work for us.

We all know health starts from the inside out and it is so important what we put in our bodies and with what we surround ourselves. Essential oils are like a gazillion times more concentrated than the plant leaf or herb….ok so don’t quote me on that because that isn’t a number… but it is big..you can’t imagine how powerful concentrated drops of oil are to harness nature’s purest gifts and get it into your body via smell, topical and intake.

One of my favorite ways to use oils…diffusing….its like a spa in your home with added benefits. Our sense of smell is powerful..many consider the most powerful. I am not going to get all scientific (maybe in a later post) but it is SO powerful over our thoughts, memory, emotions, decisions, behaviors, energy. There is all kinds of scientific evidence…(and I am a science girl!) around the brain connection not only for smell and breathing in oils but absorbing them.  Google it, trust me,and I’ll post more later.  Take a quick test of yourself  and what sparks your most powerful memories…..mine… the fresh smell of the Black Hills in South Dakota. I love how diffusing oils in our home brings general peace and calming. We can also choose the oils based on specific needs to support our limbic, respiratory, skeletal systems, to target focus, healing, relaxation or whatever we need. As a mom of two teens I don’t think I can possibly explain how thankful I am for the calming, grounding sense I feel….sometimes inhaling straight out of the bottle for a much needed moment to recenter so I can speak life into them instead of respond.

Four years ago, my kids were both diagnosed with Hashimoto’s Hypothyroid & my son with Celiac Disease. It sent me into a frenzy of trying to find and research the best choices for our health. As I have said again and again I was fortunate even to have amazing women in my life to mentor me, teach and encourage me. One of the biggest of those was with my amazing friend who is really family Katie. She has not only only been my oils mentor, but my life and health coach. With any specific concern, “what do I do for this” she has always been there to help me find an answer. It is amazing having a community to support, references and direction on how to use oils for you. I could go through how each oil has “changed my life” and it really has! From illness, to stress to breathing issues, to thyroid, concentration…. I could go on and on and on…but using oils in diffusion, topically and as supplement have had such remarkable results. Again..I’m not a doctor, but I’m thankful for the changes we have seen.
